Ellen G. White Publishing, Inc.
Ellen G. White, a 19th Century writer, was a leader of the Seventh Day Adventist Movement, producing more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books in her lifetime, including Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. She is likely the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and may be the most translated American author of either gender.
The Challenge
For more than 150 years, religious leaders and lay followers in the Seventh Day Adventist movement have sought out the teachings, knowledge and revelations of Ellen G. White in various print forms. The breadth and scope of her writings, however, made it extremely difficult to engage the entire body of her work and particularly to trace references from one publication to another. The Ellen G. White Estate looked to Contegra for guidance and help.
The Contegra Solution
Beginning in 1989, Contegra created a fully functional and detailed, 75,000-page database consisting of all of Ellen G. White's published works, first creating a set of CD-ROMs, then transforming this content into a convenient, easily navigable Web site (www.whiteestate.org).
Today, an extensive table of contents allows users to browse for online books, pamphlets, and White's six-volume bibliography, which contains a listing of the more than 600 titles referenced in her published works. On this site, Contegra has also created more than 500,000 cross reference links and a four-volume comprehensive index. Periodical article, book and pamphlet searches are available. And there are also quick keyword(s) searches in a variety of categories, in which results are displayed using relevance ranking.
